AAA Scranton: Today’s game was rained out but they will make it up tomorrow. Donnie Collins reports that Chase Whitley and Graham Stoneburner are scheduled to be the starters. Both of these starters will probably end up in the pen, but I think they both could be useful relievers. If you were wondering why Alfredo Aceves hasn’t pitched yet, it’s because he is in extended spring training. He was pitching as a reliever all spring, so he has to gain some arm strength.

Double-A Trenton (7-3 loss versus New Hampshire):

  • CF Mason Williams: 1-4, with one walk. He also threw out a runner going to third.

  • SS Ali  Castillo: 2-4.
  • LHP Jeremy Bleich:  4 IP, 5 H, 5 ER, 1 BB, 7 k, 4/1 GB to FB Ratio. It will be interesting to see how long he lasts as a starter.
  • RHP Charley Short: 3 IP, 5 H, 2 ER, 0 BB, 3 K, ½ GB to FB Ratio. Only had 4.2 innings at this level last season. This is level will be a good test for him His career numbers have been good but he isn’t thought of as a good prospect.
  • RHP Branden Pinder: 2 IP, 2 H, 0 ER, 1 BB, 3 K. This is his second chance at the level, as he really failed here a year ago.

A+ Tampa Yankees (5-1 loss versus Lakewood):

  • CF Jake Cave: 0-5,  2 k.
  • SS Cito Culver:  1-5 2 k.
  • 3B Eric Jagielo: 0-2, 2 BB, 1 R.
  • C Peter O’Brein:  0-4 2 k.

  • LF Claudio Custodio: 0-2 2 BB 1 K
  • LHP Eric Wooten:  5 IP,  1 H, 1 ER,  1 BB, 5 K, 7/2 GB/FB ratio. Independent ball signing that has done very well in the past two seasons. The first three innings of today’s game were perfect.
  • RHP Alex Smith: 1 IP, 2 H, 1 ER,  1 BB, 2 K,  0/1 GB/FB ratio.
  • RHP Phil Wetherell: 1 perfect inning with 2 strikeouts, 1/0 GB/FB ratio.
  • LHP James Pazos: 2 IP, 2 H, 2 ER, 1 BB, 2 K   4-1 GB/FB ratio.

Low-A Charleston (Lose 6-3 versus Augusta):

  • DH Tyler Wade: 0-5, 2 K.
  • SS Abiatal Avelino: 2-2, 2 R, 1 RBI, 3 BB and he stole a base. He's only 19, but he is extremely polished. Just need to wait for the power.
  • RF Aaron Judge: 1-4,  1 BB, 1 K. This was his first hit as a pro, hopefully he pulls a Refsnyder and gets hot quickly.
  • 1B Mike Ford: 1-3, 1 BB, 1 K.
  • 3B Miguel Andujar:  0-4 1 K. He’s the 10th youngest player in this league, and while he isn’t as advanced as Avelino he should do fine.
  • CF Brandon Thomas: 0-4 1 K.
  • C Luis Torrens: 0-3, 1 BB, 1 K. He is the second youngest player in this league.
  • 2B Gosuke Katoh: 1-3 1 R, 1 BB, 2 K and he stole 2 bases.  Didn’t steal many bases last year, but he is very fast.
  • LF Michael O’Neill:  0-4, 1 K.
  • RHP Luis Severino: 2 IP, 2 H, 3 ER, 2 BB, 2 K, 1 WP, 1 HB, 3/0 GB/FB  ratio.  Not the best debut, but he is considered one of the organization’s best pitchers.
  • RHP Jaron Long: 3 IP, 4 H, 1 ER, 1 BB, 3 K, 7/1 GB/FB ratio. Yes, he is related to Kevin Long. Kevin is his father. He signed as an undrafted free agent last season and has done well so far.
  • RHP Andrew Benak: 2 IP, 1 H, 0 ER, 0 BB, 3 K, 2-0 GB/FB ratio.
  • RHP Andury Acevedo: 1 IP, 0 H, 0 ER, 1 BB, 2k. He is a converted infielder, who throws very hard.
