The Yankees' six-game road trip comes to an end with today's series finale against the Milwaukee Brewers. The Bombers are currently 3-2 on this trip, and one last win before heading home to face the New York Mets would be nice.
Derek Jeter is back in the lineup for the Yankees today, with Brett Gardner leading off and Jacoby Ellsbury in the 3-hole. Mark Teixeira is batting cleanup after hitting his team-leading 6th homerun of the season last night. Teixeira has looked really good at the plate since coming off the DL a couple weeks ago, and the writs doesn't seem to be an issue at all.
The color pink will rule supreme on the field today, as players from both teams will be celebrating their mothers on this Mother's Day.
You'll see a lot of pink bats, armbands and even some players wearing pink cleats. Pitchers will also be using baseballs with pink letters and stitching to celebrate the occasion.
Today's lineup at Milwaukee:
- Brett Gardner LF
- Derek Jeter SS
- Jacoby Ellsbury CF
- Mark Teixeira 1B
- Kelly Johnson 3B
- Yangervis Solarte 2B
- Ichiro Suzuki RD
- John Ryan Murphy C
- David Phelps P
Pitching matchup preview:
Michael Pineda's replacement in the starting rotation, David Phelps, gets the ball today against the Brewers at 2:10 pm ET. Phelps made his first start of the season this past week in Anaheim against the Los Angeles Angels, tossing 5.1 innings of one-run ball, going home with the no-decision.
Phelps has never faced the Brewers in his career, so this'll be the first time he's seen many of their hitters.
Matt Garza is not making his first start against the Yankees. No, the former Tampa Bay Ray has seen a lot of the Bombers over his career, with Sunday's start being the 13th time (14 appearance) he's gotten the ball against the Yanks.
Garza came home a winner in his last start, on Monday against the Arizona Diamondbacks, giving up three runs on eight his in six innings of work.
