Coming off of a 6-1 loss to the Twins last night, the Yankees will give the ball to their ace, Masahiro Tanaka, today to put the team back on the winning track.
Not much different about the Yankees' lineup today against Twins starter Kevin Correa. Brett Gardner is leading off with Derek Jeter behind him as the DH today. Jacoby Ellsbury, Mark Teixeira and Brian McCann follow as the middle of the order. Alfonso Soriano is back in the lineup today as the right fielder. Yangervis Solarte will get the start at second base while Kelly Johnson plays third, and Brendan Ryan plays along side of him at shortstop.
The Yankees collected nine hits last night, but only had one run cross the plate. They haven't hit a homerun since Sunday in Chicago, and that's pretty concerning for a team with several guys that are relied upon to hit the long ball. Well, they're back at home, so maybe the power starts to come back.
Tanaka is probably hoping that the Yankees hit some dingers today as he is looking for his eight win of the season today, coming off of a good start against the Chicago White Sox last week, in which he gave up just one run over 6 2/3 innings, throwing a season-high 118 pitches.
Today's lineup against Minnesota:
- Brett Gardner LF
- Derek Jeter DH
- Jacoby Ellsbury CF
- Mark Teixeira 1B
- Brian McCann C
- Alfonso Soriano RF
- Yangervis Solarte 2B
- Kelly Johnson 3B
- Brendan Ryan SS
