If it seems like the Yankees are losing a lot lately, it's because they are. The Bombers enter today's game on a four-game losing streak after falling to the Oakland Athletics in the first two games of this three-game series, and they've lost five of their last six games overall.
They still aren't scoring many runs. Jacoby Ellsbury helped cap off a four-run 3rd inning against Jesse Chavez last night, but the Yankees didn't score again for the rest of the game, and eventually fell, 6-4.
They're hoping that Carlos Beltran will be able to help the Yankees, starting today, as Beltran rejoins the Yankees' lineup for the first time since mid-May, when he went on the DL after an MRI showed bone spurs his right elbow. Beltran has felt good lately, hopes to avoid surgery during the season, and produce the way the Yanks were expecting him to when they signed him to a three-year, $45 million contract over the winter.
This should be, on paper, a good day for the Yankees, with Masahiro Tanaka taking the mound today. Tanaka is the best pitcher to step on the mound for the Yankees this season, and is one of the few people on this team worth shuffling your whole day around just to watch.
To add Beltran to the 25-man roster, the Yankees designated Scott Sizemore for assignment, although it was explained Optional Assignment Waiver situation, and he basically stays with the Yankees, going to Triple-A. was called up on Tuesday, played that night, sat out Wednesday, and is now back in the minors.
