The old, old Yankees are falling apart, because apparently 2013 never ended.
Yankees manager Joe Girardi told reporters after the game that Carlos Beltran had to leave Monday night's 9-7 loss to the New York Mets after hyperextending his right elbow while taking swings in the batting cage between innings.
"Yeah, there's concern." Girardi told LoHud's Chad Jennings.
Beltran will undergo an MRI on the elbow, so the Yankees can only pray for now that it's not much.
Shawn Kelley said before the game that he felt good and ready to pitch in the event that the Yankees would need him tonight, however, that was not the case, as Girardi said he just wasn't quite ready. You have to be concerned the longer this issue lingers on.
Mark Teixeira had a little bit of tightness in his groin before the game, though Girardi did put him in to pinch-hit in the 9th inning, and he ripped a single into the right field corner, and was immediately pinch-ran for.
Teixeira told reporters afterwards that he still feels a little tight, but will be "out there tomorrow no matter what."
And finally, the 40-year-old Ichiro has some pain in his back, and is being considered day-to-day. Girardi originally said that Ichiro's back and knees were bothering him, but he gave reporters a little punch to the knees to show that they were fine.
I'm tired of these injuries, you guys. I really am.
