The Yankees took a college first-baseman with their 8th round pick. Connor Spencer, is described by BA as a hitting machine, and hit for a .361 average in his last season. However he is a line drive type hitter playing a position where people want power. With that said he has a big frame, and was playing in a huge park, so maybe the power will come. At this point the Yankees don’t exactly have a lot of money to throw on prep players, and like in recent years, there picks in the 5-10 range are college players. They usually draft relievers at this point, but they have so many of those that I’m glad they went for a position player. He was rated as the 422nd best prospect.
