Yankees manager Joe Girardi told reporters today that it's safe to read into this week's pitching order of CC Sabathia, Hiroki Kuroda and Ivan Nova being the same rotation that the Yankees use to open the 2014 season, which starters next Tuesday in Houston.
By this order, it means that Sabathia will be the Yankees' Opening Day starter, with Kuroda and Nova rounding out the opening series against the Astros. It also locks in the fact that Masahiro Tanaka will make his Major League debut in Toronto against the Blue Jays. His home debut would likely be in the following series against the Baltimore Orioles.
Girardi also told reporters that he has decided who he wants to be his fifth starter, but is going to hold off on announcing it until he lets the rest of the teams know. That race seems to be down to David Phelps and Michael Pineda, though pretty much everyone would be shocked if it wasn't Pineda.
